New ACA – NSW/ACT President Agi Sterling takes a closer look at the highlights of 2017.

As we are getting near to the end of the year, I would like to share some of my highlights for 2017.

It was a very successful year, in which we had three new members join the committee – Kathy Trelease, Michael Lewarne and Justin Loe. Welcome Kathy, Michael and Justin. It’s been great working with you in 2017, and I look forward to another great year in 2018.

We were sad to say goodbye to Michael Neustein, but we wish him great success in his new position as LAM Australia President. Many thanks for your contributions.

We have restarted ACA – ACT dialogue. Over the year, we had three meetings with a group of architects from the ACT, including one in early December, and this group is about to form a subcommittee and appoint a representative to the ACA – NSW/ACT committee.

Our webinars were well attended this year. Thank you to our ACA National Webinar Coordinator Katherine Ygosse for all her efforts. We have a draft webinar list prepared for 2018, and are planning to provide something for everyone.

ACA – NSW/ACT is changing its direction slightly by planning five face-to-face seminars. Topics on the agenda for 2018 will include Energy in Buildings, Technology for Architects, and Award changes and other HR issues. We are hoping to have these filmed and make them available online to all our members.

Our biggest success this year was the launch of the ACA Short Form Architect Client Agreement. Prepared by Christopher Larcos of Moray Agnew Lawyers on behalf of the ACA, the agreement is one of the latest additions to the ACA Toolbox, and provides members with a fair and balanced model contract for use on small- to medium-sized projects.

Last but not least, I would like to thank all the committee members who worked tirelessly all year, plus our Executive Officer Marie Frost and National Executive Officer Michelle Eades.

Thank you must also go to our National President Kieran Wong and immediate past President Steve Kennedy for their support.

Looking forward to working with you all next year. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
