A short report on the recent site tour to the new ABC Headquarters in Brisbane.

Karl Eckermann, Associate Director at Kirk Architects, led ACA – Qld members on an insightful tour of the new ABC Headquarters at South Brisbane. The new building, which brings together the ABC’s TV, Radio and on-line services and serves as the home of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, is spread over 15,000 m² (basement plus four storeys).

Kirk Architects have delivered a prominent and elegant building that sits neatly opposite the Performing Arts Centre reinforcing Russell Street as a pedestrian avenue to South Bank. The internal arrangement of open and transparent spaces within the building has achieved a connection with the public while maintaining the desired conditions for the functions within. In Kirk Architect’s own words:

“The new building achieves a stimulating and healthy work environment that is able to change in line with the future demands of the ABC, by placing emphasis on the relationship between technology and people. The importance of ensuring a degree of flexibility and future proofing of the development reflects the unique requirements and needs of the deadline-driven media industry.”

Thank you Kirk Architects for sharing your experiences of this built project with the ACA Queensland.
