ACA - WA President's Overview, 2014

Richard Young , 7 July 2014

Richard Young, President of ACA – WA, summarises activities of the past year.

The ACA has undertaken substantial work locally and nationally over the past year. Steve Kennedy took over as National President just over two years ago and he has invigorated the National Executive Committee, which has overseen the development of our new Strategic Plan and exciting website.

The core values and strategic objectives outlined in the Strategic Plan have resulted in the ACA being able to deliver more and more value to its members as the leader on strategic issues affecting the business of architecture.

ACA – WA

The ACA – WA committee currently comprises myself as President; Greg Howlett, Vice President; Peter Hodge, secretary; Janine Marsh, Treasurer; Dean Wood and Nic MacCormac.

Elections for the forthcoming two years will be held soon and I encourage anyone who feels they would like to make a contribution to nominate for a position. The current committee of six could easily double in size to accommodate this.

In addition to the great work the ACA is doing on a national basis, the WA committee has been heavily involved in some important issues on members’ behalf over the last year. These include:

  • Liaising with BMW to negotiate improved terms to their current conditions of engagement
  • Ongoing discussions with BMW regarding limiting liability
  • Ongoing discussions regarding direct engagement of secondary consultants by BMW
  • Negotiations with 3D software suppliers to improve flexibility and pricing of the existing product available in Australia

We have also recently embarked on a membership drive that has resulted in an increase in membership of approximately 20% and we will keep working to increase this even further in the coming year.

We have also continued to run four members’ luncheons per year as well as wine and cheese evenings around topics of interest to members.

We will continue to build on our range of activities that ACA – WA offers over the coming year.
