All Hallows School Tour

25 January 2023

Join the QLD/NT Committee on Tuesday 28 February for a special presentation and site tour of the Potter Building Adaptive Reuse Project at the All Hallows School in Brisbane.

Places are limited. Book now!

The Potter Building Adaptive Reuse Project is a five-storey redevelopment of the former library in a state heritage-listed site in Brisbane’s CBD.

Bound by site constraints and with an ambitious program, the decision was made early in the consultation process between All Hallows’ School and Fulton Trotter Architects to transform the existing building rather than demolish and build new. The reimagined Potter Building houses the library and associated functions such as a senior study centre, student IT support services, maker spaces, staff areas, a variety of teaching and collaboration spaces, offices and a new rooftop functions area.

The all-new floor area is constructed using cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor slabs supported by a steel frame instead of a traditional concrete structure. This was driven by the structural advantages gained in minimising the overall weight of the building, and the significant positive environmental impacts of the use of CLT. The new Potter Building is the first education building in Queensland to use CLT in this manner.
