ACA – NSW/ACT has had a busy month, with several events and initiatives.

On 11 April, the NSW/ACT branch of the ACA had a meet-and-greet with a group of architects in Newcastle. Immediate Past President of the ACA Steve Kennedy discussed the history of the association, and current President of the NSW/ACT branch Agi Sterling discussed upcoming events and the vision for the next 12 months. Twelve architects attended the successful lunch event, which was held at the Newcastle Division offices of Engineers Australia. Several architects were unable to attend, so a repeat event will be organised for the next few months.

On Wednesday 9 May, architect and educator Tone Wheeler gave an interesting presentation about Sustainability’s Third Wave at the Woollahra library. Tone discussed the Energy in Buildings: 50 Best Practice Initiatives handbook by Norman Disney Young and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), and shared his deep knowledge of the topic of environmentally sustainable design.

The NSW/ACT Committee is currently working with Cbus and SuperFriend regarding mental health support for ACA members. The NSW Board of Architects is planning a mental health survey of architects. ACA – NSW/ACT committee member Justin Loe will be involved in the reference group, which will include representatives of ARB, SONA, ACA and architects with lived mental health illness.
