Our Speaker – David Chandler OAM

David Chandler OAM is the NSW Building Commissioner.

David has extensive experience across construction in Australia and the Asia Pacific region. He led enterprises involved in major projects, public capital works procurement, business transition and transaction due-diligence. David is widely published, sharing modern construction insights and is an advocate for the modernisation of a viable Australian construction sector.

As the newly appointed building commissioner he will be providing strategic oversight of building regulation and regulatory changes and being an advocate for building industry policy reform. His role will be outward facing, making the case for reform and actively supporting the NSW Government’s commitment to achieve and maintain best practice regulation, ensuring the safety, amenity and sustainability of the built environment and protecting consumers who invest their savings in homes and other properties.

David will have the task of leading the government’s new building reform: the first being the Design and Building Practitioners Bill. This new Bill and accompanying legislation will help to reinstate the role of designers in the making of more compliant and fit for purpose building in NSW.

For this event, David will address the role of the Architect in achieving all of the above.
