The NSW Building Commission has conducted audits of registered design practitioners for over two years. In this webinar Jonathan Lynch (Building Commission NSW) provides advice to architects on the common non-compliance issues found and how these findings will improve the quality of construction in NSW.

Richard Choy (NATSPEC) talks to the five key Australian Standards for architects. He explains the difference in the use of Standards in Australia compared to overseas, and when and why you should document a Standard.

Jonathan Lynch, Manager of the Design and Building Practitioners (DBP) Audits Team, Building Commission NSW
Jonathan manages the team responsible for carrying out the audits of registered design practitioners and registered building practitioners under the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 (DBPA).

He has extensive experience as a government regulator in accreditation/registration of individuals and professional bodies and the development and approval of registration schemes. His experience includes assessment of applications for accreditation of building products and assessment of schemes for accrediting building products.

Jonathan has provided practice advice on the role of certifiers and interpretation and application of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and the Building Code of Australia.

Richard Choy, CEO of NATSPEC
Prior to joining NATSPEC, Richard was an Associate Director of a large Asia-Pacific architecture and interior design practice. He currently sits on the Australian Building Codes Board, Australasian BIM Advisory Board, Standards Australia Council, and is past President of the International Construction Information Society. Richard is a participant on many government and industry working groups regarding sustainability, procurement, regulation and BIM. Richard was awarded the 2022 Australian Institute of Architects Queensland Chapter President’s Prize for outstanding service to the architectural profession.

NATSPEC is a not-for-profit organisation with the objective to improve construction quality in Australia. NATSPEC provided the seed funding for the ACA’s Salary Calculator, COVID Management Plan and the Architects Mental Wellbeing Forum.
