Getting the Balance Right

3 October 2020

Are we architects so we can be in business, or in business so we can be architects? The ACA and the BoSP forum met on 23 November for an insightful conversation about developing simultaneously as an architect and an entrepreneur.

The Business of Small Practice forum has been steadily growing in WA under the guidance of ACA committee member and entrepreneurial architect, Kate Fitzgerald. We’ve dipped into SA and now it’s time to launch our program to a national audience.

We invite you to tune in for a conversation between Kate Fitzgerald from Whispering Smith, and Warwick Mihaly, director at Mihaly Slocombe and author of Panfilo, his straightforward account of life in business.

Warwick’s enduring mission is to be financially sustainable while protecting his studio’s passion for good design, healthy client relationships and larrikin culture.

Warwick will share his thoughts on creating financial stability without letting go of your values, and will give you an insight into the tools he uses to manage his bottom line. We will cover books read, systems adapted, apps trialled and pennies dropped.

Our Speaker

Warwick Mihaly is committed to championing positive change within the industry. He is a director of ArchiTeam, practice committee member at the Australian Institute of Architects, and founder of the popular business blog for architects, Panfilo. Together with Erica Slocombe, Warwick founded Mihaly Slocombe in 2010, whose mission is to craft purposeful architecture with joy. In his spare time, Warwick does a lot of yoga and buys Lego sets that he pretends are for his children.
