You are invited to participate in a research project exploring how current practices in built environment disciplines such as architecture are interacting with Country and First Nations Communities and Cultural Practices. The survey is now open and will close on Friday 14 March.

The Indigenising the Built Environment in Australia research project will investigate the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia’s (AACA) National Standard of Competency for Architects 2021 (NSCA). This document details performance criteria for schools of architecture and practitioners in Australia. Carefully developed by the Australian Institute of Architects First Nations Advisory Group and Cultural Reference Panel, the AACA introduced Country and First Nations Communities and Cultures as core components to learning and practice implementation.

Through this survey and conversations with key stakeholders across a variety of research engagements and scales, the team aims to assess the efficacy of the First Nations performance criteria and gather insights to help refine future standards for 2025, 2026, and beyond.
