Long Service Leave Changes
The Victorian Government has expanded the rights of employees regarding long service leave, effective from 1 November.
The ACA encourages member practices in Victoria to familiarise themselves with the new Long Service Leave Act to ensure they understand and meet their new obligations.
From 1 November 2018, employees will have the right to apply for long service leave after seven years of service rather than ten.
The Act also determines that any period of paid parental leave and up to 12 months of unpaid parental leave will now count as service. No amount of parental leave will break continuity of service.
The Victorian Government has stated that the new laws will ensure fairness and more flexiblity for women, parents and carers.
