The presentation provides a comprehensive overview of the upcoming changes to the Building Code of Australia (BCA) that came into effect on 1 May 2023.

Expert speakers include Luke Sheehy from Design Confidence Sydney and Senior Fire Engineer Usama Masood.

Luke provides a clear and concise summary of the latest changes in regulations and codes, covering new provisions for fire safety, accessibility, energy efficiency and building materials. He assists with ensuring your designs comply with the latest standards and requirements, discussing the impacts on design choices and decision-making processes.

Usama discusses the pros and cons of using PV on external walls which are deemed to be combustible elements. He identifies the risks associated with ESD efficiencies in the context of fire safety and discuss how emerging ESD initiatives impact on the performance of a building in the context of fire safety.

SPEAKERS

Luke Sheehy

Luke has worked within the building regulations industry within Australia and the United Arab Emirates for the past 12 years, developing an in-depth knowledge of local and international building codes. Having worked on complex and difficult projects throughout Australia, North Africa, India and the Middle East, he has extensive experience in identifying and implementing performance-based solutions for large-scale developments. Luke has considerable experience in assessing, coordinating and facilitating large residential, commercial and industrial projects that require negotiations with local authorities.

Usama Masood

Usama is a registered professional fire safety engineer with extensive experience in a diverse range of industries, such as defence, healthcare, residential and commercial sectors. Usama earned his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Melbourne and has also completed his Graduate Certificate in Performance-Based Building and Fire Codes from Victoria University. Usama is passionate about sustainability initiatives in the building industry and collaborates with key industry stakeholders and clients to implement sustainable design initiatives like BIPVs and mass timber construction.
