Vale Jim Earle

5 October 2014

Farewell James Heward (Jim) Earle AM.

The ACA – Vic/Tas Committee sadly wish to advise of the passing of Jim Earle on the 29 September 2014 after suffering a stroke a short time before.

Jim had been a valued member of the ACA – Vic/Tas Committee until early 2014 when he retired. Jim was an elder statesman of the architectural profession, and had served it with distinction for in excess of sixty years. His membership of the Royal Australian Planning Institute (now Planning Institute of Australia) and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects was indicative of his broad involvement with the design professional bodies throughout his career.

This service was marked by his term as RAIA President during the 1970s and long service to particularly the RAIA Victoria and National Practice Committees over a sustained period where his experience enabled him to make a significant contribution. He became an ACA – Vic/Tas Committee member towards the end of his practice career. His wise counsel and unfailing belief in the contribution that the architectural profession can make to the wider community was a  valuable contribution around the committee table.

Our condolences are passed onto his wife Joan and their family.
