WA Advocacy & Business of Design
The WA branch is getting back into the swing of things, with an upcoming government meeting and the annual Business of Design lunch.
Advocacy
At the behest of one of our valued members, the WA branch has requested a meeting with the Hon. David Templeman, Minister for Local Government to discuss the culture of cost-cutting prevalent within the sector. In an excerpt from our letter we wrote:
Our members report that they are continuously confronted with Local Government tenders in which the weight on fees sits at 40% or more. The ACA maintains that this approach to procurement diminishes the value of experience and competence within our profession, which is vital to the construction industry’s ability to deliver compliant, safe buildings for public use.
In our meeting, we will ask that the Minister considers developing policy that focuses on a ‘best value proposition’ rather than short-term cost savings.
We will keep you updated as to how the meeting unfolds.
Business of Design Lunch
The preparation for our annual lunch feels very different this year. We’ve put aside plans for a motivating speaker and instead focussed on creating an event where we can just enjoy each other’s company.
State President Malcolm Jones and Committee invites members to join us for a relaxed lunch and good conversation in a great new venue.
