Welcome David Bridgman
ACA – Qld/NT welcomes David Bridgman to the branch committee.
Dr David Bridgman is an architect with some 30 years’ experience throughout Australia. Currently an associate director with MODE, he is also the Darwin studio director. His experience includes roles in all aspects of architectural practice from initial brief development through to the completion of the project. David also has significant experience and a great interest in promoting climactic and culturally responsive design.
David is also the Northern Territory’s foremost architectural historian. In this capacity he has undertaken a wide range of heritage conservation projects and worked on some of the Territory’s most significant heritage buildings, most notably reconstruction work within Government House.
Over the past 30 years, David has managed and worked on projects of diverse type, scale and complexity for a wide range of clients. With specialist expertise in design for the hot humid tropics, rural and remote area work and working in Indigenous communities across the Northern Territory, David has achieved local and national recognition for his design skills and has been published widely. He has also lectured in architecture and has been coordinator of the Bachelor of Design degree course at Charles Darwin University.
David continues to make significant contributions to the profession through his writing and associated activities. He is the author of Acclimatisation: Architecture at the top end of Australia, which was the outcome of the Sisilation Scholarship. This publication looked at the history of architecture in the Northern Territory, an was awarded the inaugural Northern Territory Chief Minister’s History Award. David was also a major contributor to the Encyclopedia of Australian Architecture and regularly contributes articles to architectural and historical journals in Australia and overseas, with a focus on Australian architecture.
