ACA election process

Elections for ACA Committee positions are conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC). See below for information about the steps involved in each stage of the election process and relevant contacts at the ACA.

The ACA election process is independently managed by the AEC, ensuring a transparent and structured approach to appointing representatives across branch and national leadership roles.

Elections are conducted in three stages: first, members elect their Branch Committee of Management; second, newly elected committee members nominate for Branch officeholder positions; and finally, Branch Presidents form the National Executive Committee and nominate for national officeholder roles.

Each elected position carries a two-year term, with support available from ACA Branch Executive Officers and the ACA Governance team throughout the process.

ELECTION PROCESS

Stage 1 – Branch Committee of Management

  • AEC emails a nomination form to every member practice of the ACA
  • Candidate completes Candidate’s Consent
  • Two nominators are required to sign the nomination form (the relevant Branch Executive Officer can assist)
  • Completed nomination form is returned to Branch Executive Officer
  • The AEC will declare Committee of Management.

Stage 2 – Officeholder positions

  • AEC emails nomination form to newly elected Committee of Management members only
  • Candidates self-nominate and complete the consent form for the officeholder position they wish to hold
