Access to Australian Standards update

The Australian Government’s initiative to make selected Australian Standards freely accessible has taken another step forward, with Standards Australia providing an update on implementation. The ACA welcomes this update and will continue advocating for improved access on behalf of members.

Standards Australia has provided an update on the Australian Government’s initiative to provide free public access to selected Australian Standards referenced in legislation and regulation.

According to Standards Australia, a new read-only digital platform has been developed and is now in the final stages of testing, with early feedback indicating a seamless and user-friendly experience.

Work is continuing with the Australian Government to identify which standards will be included, to map legislative references across jurisdictions, and secure the necessary permissions from international standards bodies and other partners.

While no launch date has yet been confirmed, Standards Australia has advised that implementation work is progressing and that further updates will be provided as details are finalised.

The ACA, through our membership with ACIF, is progressing discussions with Standards Australia in the coming months.

Improving access to Australian Standards has been a long-standing advocacy priority for the ACA, recognising the important role that accessible standards play in improving productivity, supporting compliance, and reducing unnecessary costs for architectural practices and the broader built environment.
