WA Branch Update - May 2020
Highlights for 2020 for ACA – WA have been three successful online events and continued government advocacy.
Since the onset of COVID-19, we have maintained open and productive conversations with government and associated agencies, including the Office of the Government Architect (OGA), Building Management and Works and the Architects Board. While we applaud the Government’s commitment to fast-tracking construction, we will continue to advocate for the importance of maintaining design integrity across projects.
Kukame McPierzie and Kate Fitzgerald are soon to meet with DesignWA to establish an ongoing dialogue between the ACA and Department of Planning Lands and Heritage to advocate for the built environment, design quality, and economic prosperity. The ACA is also working with the OGA and DesignWA on a skills development series, which will coincide with the release of the draft medium density framework to ensure architecture businesses can capitalise on the opportunity to lead the transition to a better built environment in WA.
A highlight in recent months has been the success of our three webinars where we were able to shift our planned events to an online format. The webinars covered topics ranging from marketing, managing remote teams and our first online Business of Small Practice (BoSP) on managing practice finance in times of crisis.
