Welcome Charles Darwin University
The ACA is delighted to welcome Charles Darwin University as a University affiliate, joining RMIT, Melbourne University, Swinburne University of Technology and the PNG University of Technology in this growing initiative that aims to help bridge the gap between education and practice.
The program provides Australian schools of architecture with curated resources, practical tools, and deeper engagement with the business side of architecture. It also supports academic staff and students in developing a stronger understanding of the realities of practice.
The University Affiliate Program forms part of the ACA’s strategic focus on engagement, growth, and meaningful partnerships across the sector. Charles Darwin University Professor of Architecture, Lindy Osborne Burton was key to the partnership and highlights the benefits of ACA Affiliate membership.
“Charles Darwin University’s Architecture Program has recently joined the ACA as a University Affiliate Member, and I am so glad we did! We are small, and a long way from the practices and professional networks that schools in the southern capitals may take for granted.
Borrowing a Client-Architect Agreement from a colleague’s practice and hoping it is still current is no way to teach Professional Practice, and the ACA’s templates, agreements and contracts eliminate those difficulties. The Knowledge Hub sits closely alongside our Professional Practice and Simulated Office Practice Studio teaching, and the CPD material on effective First Nations consultation is directly relevant up here in the Top End. Access to the Time Cost Calculator and the Architects Mental Wellbeing Forum toolkit means every one of our students can work from the same resources, whatever their geographic location or circumstances.
Things we used to struggle to find and to be able to rely upon are now all located in the one place, which for a small program in a remote place feels like an enormous gift. I encourage colleagues at other Schools of Architecture to have a look at what Affiliate Membership might offer them.”
University Affiliate offer
The ACA is offering an annual membership fee of $3,000 + GST for architecture schools for 12 months.
The fee covers all relevant academic staff, including sessional instructors, responsible for teaching the Architecture course within the School. Once a School registers, the ACA will work with the designated contact to set up access for the teaching team via email.
In addition, the ACA is offering an Affiliate Student Membership. The standard annual fee is $49; however, if the University or School of Architecture becomes an Affiliate, students can join for just $29 + GST.
