December Update from Vic/Tas

10 December 2018

The Vic/Tas branch has had a busy year, with a range of insightful events for members, continuing development of ACA tools, input to the Fair Work Commission, and responses to myriad requests for peak body contributions to papers on the built environment.

Events over the year included:

  • Peter Raisbeck from the University of Melbourne provided valuable insights from his research on the challenges of modern practice
  • Paul Viney, ACA – Vic/Tas President, presented the ACA Toolbox and launched the revised Architects Time Cost Calculator in Tasmania and again in Victoria
  • Neville Boyd from the Victorian School Building Authority and Richard Choy from NATSPEC spoke about how to be better placed to engage with the education sector
  • Robert Peake, Director of Management for Design, presented a webinar on profitability and future growth for architects

The industrial relations sub-committee has been working with Platinum Employee Relations discussing and addressing aspects of the award review with the intention of adjusting the award to better work for today’s employees and employers.

The committee has also been working on the development of website-based tools to enhance the professionalism and assist the business acumen of practices with further development of the Time / Cost Calculator, establishment of the Salary Calculator (across a series of awards that affect architect’s practices) and working on the introduction of the Resource Sharing Tool to enable offices to address the eternal challenge of managing workload and resources.

The ACA – Vic/Tas branch welcomes any member who may wish to join the Branch Committee. Contact our executive officer Michelle Eades for further information.

We wish our members a very happy holiday season.
