Heritage work can often be small projects with small budgets that don’t extend to specialist heritage advice. Projects can include simple residential work including outbuildings or small commercial projects in township centres.
Viewing this webinar will help architects gain a better understanding of relevant issues for these projects and how to address them. The panel discussion is not intended to replace specialist heritage architectural advice. Instead, the aim is to enable an architect to appropriately consider satisfactory design responses based on controls and good heritage practice, and to prepare a planning permit application to address the decision guidelines of a heritage overlay.
Our panellists include ACA Vic/TAS Committee regional representative Brad Hooper (sole practitioner in Maldon) and experienced heritage architects Mick Moloney (from Ballarat-based Moloney Architects) and Anna Eaves (from Hobart-based MCA Architects). Our panel bring their skills, experience and knowledge to the discussion of the following:

ABOUT OUR PANELLISTS
Brad Hooper is Director and sole practitioner with a shopfront in the main street of Maldon in regional Victoria, providing comprehensive architectural services for new builds, additions and renovations; for housing, commercial and institutional projects; on urban, rural and sensitive sites; in contemporary and heritage contexts. In a town where everyone knows everyone, he is the go-to person for professional advice on heritage overlays and building approvals and even single screen doors. Brad is a member of the ACA Vic/Tas Branch Committee and is an active member of many heritage and regional committees including the ACA Regional Practice Committee, the City of Greater Bendigo Heritage Advisory Committee, National Trust Australia (Victoria) Heritage Advocacy Committee, the AIA Regional Committee and the Regional Architects Association.
Anna Eaves is Co-Director of MCA Architects, a family based business located in Hobart. She is a registered Architect and Access Consultant. Mainly working in the commercial space, she undertakes many offices, medical and hospitality project in Hobart. MCA Architects recently completed the Cascade Female Factory Visitors Centre located at the former workhouse for female convicts. She is currently undertaking building upgrades in a number of buildings of significance in Hobart, enjoying the challenges of access and compliance. Anna completed renovating a late 1800s Federation Cottage in South Hobart this year, where she lives with her young family.
Mick Moloney is the director of Ballarat-based practice Moloney Architects. He is a registered architect with qualifications in both Architecture and Construction Management and is a member of the AIA Chapter Council. Mick is co-chair of the AIA Regional Committee and co-chair of the Ballarat Architects Forum. Mick shares his passion for the business of architecture as a co-host of the In Detail architectural practice podcast. Working within Ballarat’s rich architectural legacy, a major component of Mick’s work involves the restoration and adaptation of residential and commercial heritage structures.
