This session of Parlour Talks presents the initial findings of the STOP! Harassment & Bullying Survey, and starts the conversation about how to address them. It includes a high level overview of the findings by Gill Matthewson, followed by a discussion with Justine Clark and Merilyn Speiser about what can be done to tackle entrenched challenges.

Conducted in late 2024, the STOP! survey collected a wealth of data from over 1,000 respondents who generously shared their knowledge and experiences. The headline results are shocking – 91% of respondents have experienced bullying and 71% have experienced sexual harassment. The detail includes devastating impacts on careers, wellbeing, safety and the robustness of the profession. It reveals a lack of knowledge about workplace legal obligations, poor understanding of what constitutes harassment and bullying, and limited understanding of how to respond should an incident occur.

Addressing this requires long-term, sustained, collaborative action – this discussion is the beginning.
