Arch_Manu October 2026 Hackathon

The ACA’s research partner, the ARC Centre for Next-Gen Architectural Manufacturing (Arch_Manu), has announced a call for proposals for the October Hackathon 2026. The hackathon program is an opportunity to collaborate, to explore and test new ideas around emerging technologies, and develop innovative projects together.

Deadline for proposal submission – 12 July!

  • Angelina Pillai with the Arch_Manu team – Farnaz Fattahi, Ivana Kuzmanovska & Alexander Jung.

The Hackathon project proposals represent a series of early-stage innovation concepts developed through collaboration between industry practitioners, researchers and technology specialists. The projects explore how emerging technologies – including AI, automation and digital workflows – can be applied to address challenges facing the built environment sector and in practice. While varying in scope and focus, the proposals share a common objective: to improve efficiency, enhance decision-making, reduce administrative burden and unlock new opportunities for practice innovation. The Hackathon provides a structured environment for testing ideas, assessing their industry relevance and identifying those with potential for further development into practical tools, services or research initiatives.

How it works

Submitted project proposals are reviewed by the Hackathon Committee and the most exciting / promising / appropriate proposals are selected for inclusion into the Hackathon program.

During registration, participants will vote for their preferred projects. Project groups are then allocated based on a preferential voting system. Groups typically consist of 4–7 people.

Due to the geographically distributed nature of the Arch_Manu network, project teams are often spread across Australia and internationally. Teams work together for two days during the hackathon week to develop their project, culminating in a presentation at the final showcase event, typically held in person at multiple locations in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Timing

  • Hackathon proposals due – 12 July
  • Selected proposals announced – week of 27 July
  • Registration opens – 28 September
  • Voting closes – 7 October
  • Project groups announced – 12 October
  • Kick-off meeting – 20 October
  • Final presentations – 28 October.

Proposal submission

Arch_Manu invites proposals for research ideas, tool or workflow development, or other initiatives that would benefit from a collaborative, interdisciplinary sprint during the hackathon week.
